History

The few preserved documents do not provide any information about the founding year of the plant and its production profile or about its first administrator. Known is, that in the years 1921 till 1945 the plant went through different organisational phases and that also the owners changed in the process. In August 1945 the plant was taken over by the Polish administration and was, until April 1946, subordinate to the paper plant in Jelenia Gora.

In April 1946, the cardboard plant in Nowa Sol was created, which was subject to the paper plant.

In June the first production was launched and until the end of the year 1949 20 tons of packaging were produced, mostly of cardboard.

In August 1949 the plant was taken over by the state-owned graphic plant in Zielona Gora.

On 27 April 1950 a protocol was drawn up concerning the transfer of the enterprise to the state property. During this time the production rose to 550 tons of packaging.

On the basis of the Order no. 225 of the Ministry for light industry, at state-owned enterprise with the name „Zakłady Kartoniarskie Nowa Sól“ (Cardboard plant Nowa Sol) was founded on 1 January 1951, the activity of which consisted in the production of cardboard and which took over the paper printing plant in Kożuchów including its machines.

On 1 October 1973, the enterprise was integrated with the Kostrzynskie cellulose and paper plant in order to form the paper plant in Nowa Sól – the Kostrzyńskie Zakłady Papiernicze.

From the year 1962, the terrain of the plant was successively enlarged by grounds on ulica Podwale, ulica Hutnicza and by allotments, and then by the grounds of a former renovation and construction company. In November 1988, the plant in Nowa Sol was separated from the cellulose plant in Kostrzyn, to which it had been subordinate.

On 01.01.1989 an independent company was founded with the name “Nowosolskie Zakłady Kartoniarskie” (Cardboard plant Nowa Sol). But the plant functioned under this name only until November 1991. This was when, with the agreement of the Minister for Industry, it was transformed into a joint-stock company. Yet it was only from 01.01.1992 that the packaging production plant officially existed under the name of “Karton – Pak” S.A.
